Spiders are a very large group of animals, their diffusion being the widest and a widely variegated range of life hosts, behaviors and different morphological and psychological adaptabilities are found among them. The number of spider species stands at about 45,000 and several hundreds of them are found in Israel.
Spiders are important to agriculture and to the economy of the country, since all of them prey on mainly insects and mites. On the other hand, the poisonous venom of some spiders represents a danger for large vertebrates, including humans. For this reason it is important to control their development. The main danger comes from female spiders that can become extremely aggressive when t carrying bags of eggs or when guarding their offspring.
The most dangerous among the species is the black widow, a species that is common almost everywhere in all the country. Black widows are highly venomous and they have caused much harm and even death to many of their victims.
SPIDERS CONTROL STRATEGIES:
PEST CONTROL OPERATIONS ARE COMPLEMENTARY TREATMENTS FOR PREVENTING THE DEVELOPMENT OF SPIDERS.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES THAT ARE RECOMMENDED:
- Prevent the formation of moisture conditions which are favorable habitats for small arthropod that frequently become a food source for spiders.
- To prevent the penetration of spiders, nets and curtains should be installed.
- Spider control measures are used as complementary to preventive treatments, and are applied by spraying pesticides in advance on ceilings, walls, behind pictures and on book shelves and in wardrobes.
- Measures for controlling spiders in the outdoors include locating cracks in rocks and low bushes and spraying them with pesticides.
