The mouse is the smallest of this species and was probably originally located in the southern regions of the world although today they have become a nuisance throughout the world. This particular species is common in all regions of the country and in all types of soil.
The mouse resides in private homes as well as apartment buildings, farm, yards, fields, vegetable gardens and orchards. In the summer the mouse may roam beyond the farm buildings and into cultivated areas.
Mice eat mainly seeds, but they can also feed on insects, small animals and greenery. This species is mostly active at night but can also be found during the day. The mouse is able to climb and hide in burrows which he digs by himself.
Mice can be found almost anywhere among the human population and can cause multiple damages in many different areas and because they carry infectious diseases, they are considered a major health hazard.
Mice breed in all seasons and can be eradicated all year around, although priority pest control in rural areas is in the spring, before the main breeding season begins.
MOUSE CONTROL STRATEGIES:
PEST CONTROL OPERATIONS ARE COMPLEMENTARY TREATMENT OPERATIONS IN ORDERTO KEEP MICE FROM BREEDING.
PREVENTIVE MEASURES THAT ARE RECOMMENDED:
- Measures used to prevent the penetration of mice include the sealing of points of water piping and electrical connections, installing curtains, nets and covering all food items.
- Do not leave food and food scraps without covering them, especially during the summer months.
- Maintain proper sanitation conditions, remove any food that has been exposed, dispose of any solid waste and remove any debris from construction areas.
- Pest control operations against mice are used as complementary to preventative measures.
- In farm areas it is very important to maintain effective organization of pest control operations. In collective farms pesticides should be coordinated among the different sectors to ensure that it will be completed simultaneously.
- Pest control is done according to the level of mice infestation. The most effective pest control method is to apply blocks or bags containing poison that prevents blood clotting (anticoagulant) into feeding boxes which are designed to bait rodents. These should be controlled on a regular basis. Mortality due to eating rat poison generally occurs on the third day after eating the bait.
- Upon completion of the pest control operation, rodent traps are placed for monitoring and follow-up purposes.
- In the case of extermination of mice, toxins should not be redistributed over an extensive area for fear of secondary poisoning. In the case of extermination of mice, toxins should not be redistributed over an extensive area for fear of secondary poisoning.
